  1.              General Remarks about BUSINESS CARD READER

  5. Insert the installation diskette into Drive A ( or B) and type:
  6.

  8.           win A: Setup [enter] or,
  9.           run A: Setup  -  from Windows
  10.  
  11. First time using Business Card Reader
  12.  
  13.      1. Select New BCR base name: use File: New Base Menu item.
  14.         The BCR base will consist of two files:
  15.  
  16.                *.cdb - card texts
  17.                *.img - card images
  18.  
  19.      2.  Select and Setup Scanners:  use Settings: Scanner Menu item.
  20.          Select scanner model.  Do not forget to Setup Scanner.
  21.  
  22.      3.  Setup Input:  Use Settings: Input Menu item.
  23.          You can select the single or multiple card input mode, and 
  24.          frame for scanning.  The default values are: single card mode 
  25.          and the size of the frame is 3.5" X 2" which corresponds with 
  26.          the standard business card size.  The frame is placed at the 
  27.          upper left corner of the scanner for all flatbed scanners.

  29. For the Dextra model DR-6GP, DR-3GP or the AVision 100 you have to set 
  30. the left margin value on 2.3" - 2.5" depending on how you set the tray 
  31. on the Dextra scanner.

  36.                 Input modes and use of a template
  37.

  39. There are two input modes; single card and multiple  card modes.
  40.  
  41. In  the single card mode you will get the image within an ordered frame 
  42. as a image of a card.  The standard size of a business card is 3.5"x 2".
  43.  
  44. In the multiple card mode Business Card Reader is looking for cards 
  45. within a framed area.  The most reliable way to use  the multiple card 
  46. mode is with a card template. This is  constructed  of  a  heavy weight  
  47. paper  with  window cutouts  for  the cards.  This way you can avoid  
  48. skewing and  loosing some cards by Business Card Reader.  If  you want 
  49. to use a template, select multiple card mode and set the frame for 
  50. scanning with a width of 8.5" x 11".

  52. You can make your own template if you wish.  The size  of the  windows  
  53. will have to be 3.6" x 2.1".   Each  window must  be outlined with a 
  54. black marker to the size of 3.8" x  2.3".   It  is a good idea to mark 
  55. both sides  of  the template so that either side can be used.

  57. IMPORTANT:  Do not use multiple card mode with the DEXTRA DR-6GP, DR-3GP 
  58. or the AVision 100 scanners.

  62.              LINK BETWEEN BUSINESS CARD READER AND LOTUS ORGANIZER
  63.  
  64. 1. Brief description of the Link.
  65.  
  66.    The menu item Link will manage all linking functions consisting of 
  67. the following:
  68.  
  69.       a.  Link Base:       Permits you to select Lotus base  which have 
  70.                            to be linked with Business Card Reader base.
  71.  
  72.       b.  Unlink Base:     Deletes linkage.
  73.  
  74.       c.  Update:          Exports all cards which were created or 
  75.                            changed from the previous update.
  76.  
  77.       d.  Auto Update:     If this item is checked, every new  or 
  78.                            changed card will be exported into the Lotus
  79.                            base immediately.

  81.     Each card contains two attributes:
  82.  
  83.       1.  Update:          Was the card updated since the last export  
  84.                            of that card to the Lotus base.
  85.  
  86.       2.  Link ID:         Identifier of exported card in the  Lotus 
  87.                            base;  Link ID is not empty  if the card was 
  88.                            exported once.  If Link ID was established 
  89.                            for the card, all the following updates will 
  90.                            replace the exported items in the Lotus base.

  93. 2.  Problem with Link using TZDLL.DLL.
  94.  
  95.      The main cause of this problem is that Lotus Organizer cannot use
  96. TZDLL.DLL which is not loaded from the Lotus directory.  This means that
  97. we cannot place TZDLL.DLL in the BCR directory, because  Lotus Organizer
  98. will not work if BCR was loaded before Lotus.

  100.      We are currently loading TZDLL.DLL from the Lotus directory when 
  101. BCR can find it.  This is made possible in the following instances:
  102.  
  103.         a. Lotus was loaded before BCR
  104.         b. TZDLL.DLL can be found using the PATH statement
  105.         c. BCR was installed in the Lotus directory
